About the client

Understanding our client: specifics, challenges, and custom solutions

The client is a U.S.-based online retailer with more than 20 years of experience in office supplies and equipment. Their catalog includes over 7,000 products across categories such as stationery, school and art supplies, copy paper, food items, and household chemicals.
Their business model involves a broad product catalog, customer-facing shopping flows, promotional content, and internal management needs around catalog and cart configuration.

Problem

The client’s existing e-commerce marketplace was built on an outdated PHP codebase that had become difficult to maintain, update, and extend. As the business needed interface improvements, stronger admin-side control, and more flexible e-commerce functionality, the legacy system made further changes time-consuming and harder to manage within a reasonable project scope.
The old platform also limited how quickly the team could improve customer-facing shopping flows, promotional content, filtering, sorting, and cart configuration. A rebuild was needed to preserve the core business logic while moving the marketplace to a more maintainable technical foundation.

Solution

A rebuilt e-commerce marketplace platform was developed by analyzing the existing legacy PHP codebase, preserving the client’s core marketplace logic, and moving the system to a Laravel-based architecture. The project was not treated as a simple redesign: the existing business workflows, catalog behavior, shopping logic, and admin-side needs had to be understood before the platform could be reworked into a more maintainable system.
The new platform included a redesigned customer-facing interface and an admin panel for managing marketplace settings, promo blocks, filtering and sorting logic, and shopping cart configuration. This gave the client a platform structure better aligned with their actual e-commerce operations, instead of continuing to rely on the limitations of the legacy codebase.

Key features

Project features overview: essential enhancements and strategic solutions

  • feature

    Marketplace Filtering and Sorting Settings

The platform includes configurable filtering and sorting settings that help customers navigate a large office supplies catalog through clearer product discovery controls. These controls support product discovery across a broad range of categories and make the shopping experience easier to manage from the platform side.
For the business, this creates a more flexible foundation for organizing product visibility, search behavior, and customer-facing catalog navigation without relying only on hardcoded changes.
  • feature

    Promo Block Management

The admin panel includes tools for managing promotional blocks across the marketplace interface. This allows the team to update promotional content, adjust visible marketing areas, and keep offer-related sections aligned with current business priorities.
This feature supports more controlled marketplace content management, especially for an online retailer that needs to keep promotions, product categories, and customer-facing messaging up to date.
  • feature

    Flexible Shopping Cart Configuration

The platform supports configurable shopping cart behavior, including the ability to send cart contents by email. This gives customers and internal users a more flexible way to review, share, or continue selected product lists before completing the purchasing process.
The cart configuration logic helps the marketplace support a broader office supplies buying flow, where customers may compare, adjust, or share cart contents before placing an order.

Result

Performance Showcase: Unveiling the Results of Our Collaborative Endeavors

The client received a rebuilt e-commerce marketplace platform with a redesigned customer-facing interface and a structured admin panel for managing marketplace settings, promo blocks, filtering, sorting, and cart configuration. The project preserved the business logic of the legacy system while giving the retailer a more maintainable foundation for ongoing platform updates.
The updated platform reduced dependence on the limitations of the previous PHP codebase and gave the business a clearer structure for managing catalog presentation, promotional areas, and shopping cart behavior within one Laravel-based system.

Customer review

Real Stories of Satisfaction and Success

"It was a long and complex project, but the process was smooth thanks to Yevhen’s expertise early on and strong project coordination throughout. We started with a clean backlog and successfully migrated a legacy non-framework PHP site to Laravel, using elements from the existing system. Things became more challenging later in the project when our customer began requesting smaller, less-defined changes, sometimes even contradicting earlier requirements - but the team handled it professionally."
