About the client

Understanding our client: specifics, challenges, and custom solutions

CargoMagic was developed as an internal WebMagic product in the logistics and warehouse planning domain. The project was created to present WebMagic’s desktop software development experience and logistics calculation logic through a focused cargo load planning tool, where users need a simple way to estimate container capacity, cargo weight, and space usage without cloud setup.

Problem

Warehouse and logistics teams often need a quick way to estimate whether cargo will fit into a selected container without relying on spreadsheets or complex logistics software. The goal was to create a focused desktop tool that could support practical load planning directly on the user’s device.
The project also needed to stay within a controlled product scope. CargoMagic had to provide clear cargo planning value for day-to-day warehouse and shipping use while avoiding cloud setup, user accounts, or the complexity of a full logistics management system.

Solution

Our team developed a lightweight desktop load planning app around a clear cargo planning workflow: create a load, define item dimensions and quantity, select a container type, calculate fit, review container utilization, and save or export the result.
The product logic was structured to keep load planning practical and local to the user’s device. Users can work with predefined container types, enter cargo parameters, and calculate whether the selected load fits based on both volume and weight constraints.
The calculation layer uses item dimensions, item weight, quantity, and container parameters to estimate total volume, total weight, container utilization, remaining space, and the limiting factor between volume and weight. The app also displays a simple 2D container preview to show filled and empty space in a clear visual format.
CargoMagic also includes saved load sessions, load editing, deletion, theme switching, and CSV export, so users can manage previous calculations without cloud accounts or backend-heavy workflows. The product was intentionally kept focused on desktop-based cargo planning rather than warehouse management, freight operations, or full logistics system functionality.

Key features

Project features overview: essential enhancements and strategic solutions

  • feature

    Cargo Input and Load Setup

Users can create a load plan by entering cargo dimensions, weight, quantity, load name, and optional notes. The form is structured around the core data needed to calculate whether cargo can fit into a selected container or pallet.
Input validation helps prevent incomplete or invalid calculations by checking required fields, duplicate load names, and values such as length, width, height, weight, and quantity.
  • feature

    Predefined Container Selection

The app includes predefined container and pallet options such as standard shipping containers and Euro pallet configurations. After a container is selected, the app displays its internal dimensions and maximum payload.
This gives users a clear starting point for cargo planning without requiring manual container setup or external reference tables.

  • feature

    Volume, Weight, and Utilization Calculation

CargoMagic calculates total cargo volume, total weight, container utilization, remaining space, and the limiting factor between volume and weight. The calculation logic uses item dimensions, quantity, weight, and selected container parameters to estimate how many units fit.
The result is presented as a load summary with key values and a simple 2D container preview, helping users understand the calculated fill level in a visual format.
  • feature

    Offline Desktop Operation

The app runs locally on the user’s desktop device after installation and does not require a cloud account or internet connection for cargo calculations. Saved load sessions and user preferences are stored locally.
This keeps the product aligned with warehouse and on-site planning scenarios where users may need a focused tool without relying on cloud-based logistics software.
  • feature

    Saved Loads and CSV Export

Users can save load planning sessions, reopen previous calculations, edit load details, delete outdated plans, and keep a local list of saved loads. Saved sessions make it easier to return to previous cargo planning scenarios without starting from scratch.
The app also supports CSV export, allowing users to download calculation results for offline review, internal records, or further analysis outside the application.

Result

Performance Showcase: Unveiling the Results of Our Collaborative Endeavors

CargoMagic became a focused desktop load planning product that translates cargo dimensions, weight, and quantity into a clear container-fit estimate without relying on cloud-based logistics software.
For WebMagic, the project provided a practical showcase of desktop application development for the logistics and warehouse planning domain. It demonstrated how local desktop operation, cargo calculation logic, container utilization, and simple data export can be combined into a lightweight product for day-to-day load planning.
